postheadericon Innovative Ways to Ring in the New Year

After the long month of holidays that precede NYE, you may be thinking that you’ll hunker down under a cozy blanket on December 31st.  Some people say, however, that the way you ring in the New Year forecasts how your year will go.  That being said, let’s look at some of the innovative ways you can celebrate New Year’s Eve like a rock star – or a homebody; take your pick.

Play Dress-up

Who says that costume parties are only appropriate for Halloween gatherings?  Holding a costumed ball to ring in the New Year allows you to be free with creating the whole bash around a specific theme.  Perhaps you and your friends would have really liked to travel to Fiji for the holiday.  Throw a tropical luau instead!  Maybe you’re a history buff or a Spartacus fan.  Throw your NYE party in true style with Viking helmets, breastplates and turkey legs.

Your costume party can follow a theme, or you can allow all of your invitees to come as whatever they wish.  This is fun, because between Viking helmets and Goldilocks, you get a lot of laughs and interesting discussions.

Let Culture Rule

Along the lines of a theme, you could opt to choose a Chinese New Year’s party.  Sure, this holiday doesn’t come around until February; but it’s the idea that counts!  With this theme, you could order in from your favorite Chinese restaurant and stream long rolls of paper across the ceiling.  To go all out, you could still play dress-up with your friends, donning kimonos and other traditional garb.  This is a far cry from the Viking helmets that might come to your other costume party idea; but it’s fun, nonetheless.

Resolutions

New Year’s Eve tends to be all about resolutions for what’s to come.  Make it fun, or put everyone on the spot, by throwing a resolutions party.  You can get very creative with this idea and incorporate costumes here too.  No, you won’t dress as Spartacus just because you think he’s cool.  With a resolution party, you could wear a necklace with the Ohm symbol if you resolve to learn more about your spiritual self; or wear glasses and carry books if you plan to go back to school.  Less creative, but just as fun, is to have every person write down their resolution on a small piece of paper as they enter the party.  Each piece of paper is folded and placed into a bowl.  Sometime during the party, the resolutions will be read aloud and guests get to guess which resolution belongs to whom.

Best of the Best

At the dawn of anything new lies memories of the best times.  If you don’t want to party like a rock star, you could opt to hold a Best of the Best party with your honey, the family, or a few close friends and spend the night in a movie marathon of your favorite flicks.  Pop some popcorn, put on your favorite Viking helmet, and throw in the DVD.  This party is simply fantastic!
